Constituents:

    "The primary bioactive agents in Oregon grape are the many
      isoquinoline alkaloids.  Beside the main yellow alkaloid berberine,
      the roots and foliage contain berbamine, oxayacanthine and
      oxyberberine. The roots have others including canadine,
      mahonine, magnoflorine, and jatrorrhizine, depending on
  species
      and other esoteric factors."
