   Constituents:
    "Always vary somewhat. The bitter glycoside gentiopicrin, several
     bitter amorphic substances, gentisic acid, several sugars peculiar
     to the genera, and in the perennial roots, several water in soluble
     sterols, gentiopicrin (for malaria) and gentisic acid (for rheumatic
     inflammations)."

     gentiopicrine which are partially or totally is converted to bitter
     glycosides (depending on drying methods),  and gentiamarine,
     volatile oil, mucilage, tannin."
