  Cautions:
" The fresh roots are toxic and should not be used internally, but a poultice of
the raw rhizome is especially effective against staph sore.  Only the dry root
should be tincture.  As a cathartic, two capsules of the ground root ( "00" size )
or twenty drops of the tincture is an average dose." Ref. C p. 40   "Since the
speed and mode of metabolization and excretion can be of critical importance
in many substantial  medical treatments, decreased or increased effects from
such drugs may result from the accompanying use of Blue Flag.  It is strong in
effect and can be unpleasant if used in excess; therefore, its present use is
almost always in combination with other herbs. "
Ref. C p 40
"This is a useful drug plant but in general  should be used with care and
preferably in combinations where less energetic plants form the bulk of a
     formula."
Ref. C p.40   "Large doses cause nausea, vomiting and facial neuralgias.
Handling the plant may cause dermatitis."
