From Planting Instructions:  under Pests and Diseases

  Oak Root Fungus

In low elevation non desert areas of California ( Armillaria mellea )  infects mainly

woody garden plants.  First sign is dull or yellow leaves and sparse foliage.

Leaf wilt and entire branch die leading to the death of the plant.  To verify as oak

root fungus,  check bark of stem at or below ground.  Look for a mat of white

fungus tissue,  and in late autumn or early winter,  look for clumps of tan

mushrooms around plant.  All soil around the infestation must be removed.

Replace with an alternate type of plant.
